The importance of body shape
Based upon Patrick James Eggle’s original ‘Saluda’ body shape, we class the Neptune as a ‘baby-jumbo’ model. At 16” across the lower bout, the Neptune is a little smaller than a full-on 17” Jumbo model yet retains the majority of that jumbo power and presence. Here in its non-cutaway version, the Neptune Nexus is a true full-bodied powerhouse.
Which tonewoods are used and why?
The top, back and sides of the Nexus Neptune Copper Black are solid Indonesian Mahogany, stained with a translucent black colour treatment. This staining process serves to deepen the visual character of Mahogany allowing the tonewood's natural figuring to be fully appreciated, complementing, and combining with some of the inherent natural golden and amber mahogany tones. This combination results in the ‘copper’ almost metallic colours glimpsed when the light catches some instruments just right.
How does it all come together?
All-Mahogany guitars have been an essential part of a guitarists tonal palette for a long time now. By using the same tonewood for the whole body, the instrument delivers a reliably linear tone emphasising the low-mids, helped by the larger scale of the Neptune body shape. Each guitar is coated with gloss lacquer and polished to a high shine, helping protect the instrument no matter what you encounter in your musical journey.
Each Nexus model has a striped Ebony fingerboard, bridge and bridge pins too.
The Electronics:
Amplification of this beauty is possible thanks to the Fishman S-tone pickup system which features an undersaddle piezo pickup, controlled by an active Volume and Tone control mounted just under the edge of the soundhole. This system is super-discreet, keeping the instrument’s traditional aesthetic firmly intact.
